It's true!
Tiana's supposed to be a tribute to the previous princesses, a return to the golden formula. But the media seems to prefer her over her older sisters (yes, I call them that), because she would be a "stronger" character.
One of the interviewers on the premiere really annoyed me. She kept on saying how weak the other princesses were, how spoiled and just waiting for their prince to come along.
The only one who comes close is Snow white, but even she has a sense of responsibility!
True, they are different, but not any less. Besides, most of them (all except Ariel and Jasmine), didn't have the royal life untill their happily ever after. They worked hard too!
Ariel saved her true love by going her own way. Jasmine didn't care for luxury, all she wanted was to be free. And she was surely not looking for a prince! Instead, she married a poor lad.
I blame the merchandising for the "spoiled" image... It's not Tiana's fault. I think she is going to be a great character!
Poor Tiana, she has just been born, and already she has so much critique from the world. I love her! I can't wait to see her movie!

That always annoyed me that people still considers "old" Disney princesses as poor role model, spoiled, shallow, selfish, weak, doing nothing else but waiting for their prince to solve all their problem etc. Ignoring in the process all their qualities.
It's clear that people who see the princesses that way have a poor memory of the movies. Or see kindness, empathy and feelings as weaknesses.
Worst yet, when this princesses prove to be more stronger than people think, by being headstrong, resilient and spirited, people still complain and claim that make them disrespectful and unlikable.
